It may also have helped implement the longer zoom range up from 4x / 28-112mm to a much more useful 5x / 24-120mm, with a far brighter focal ratio too, f2-3.9 versus f2.8-5.8 on the older model.

Interestingly the resolution has fallen slightly from 14.3 Megapixels in order to deliver the same field of view whether shooting in 3:2 or 4:3 note the resolution for each aspect ratio is 12.8 and 13.1 Megapixels respectively. Inside there’s what appears to be the same 1.5in sensor, roughly the same size as a Micro Four Thirds sensor and comfortably larger than the 1in type found in Sony’s RX100 II. Announced in February 2014, the G1X Mark II is the successor to the original G1 X, launched two years earlier, but despite the Mark II name, it’s a considerably different camera I don’t think anyone would complain if it were called the G2 X instead.įor the G1 X Mark II, Canon has sensibly kept what was good about the original camera – the image quality – and changed pretty much everything else, in theory addressing most of the complaints. Just this week I bought a 6D Mark II for the flip screen-a handy aid in focusing extreme macros. The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II is a high-end compact camera aimed at those who desire DSLR quality in a smaller, fixed lens body. I have a 5D Mark IV, a 5D Mark III, and I've been using a 6D for the last three years or so. I'm a full-frame kind of guy, though I love my little M5 as well.

CANON POWERSHOT G1 X MARK II SOLAR ECLIPSE FULL
I have been asking myself the same question as I own a 7D and 7Dii but I would love the shoot full frame. But the layout is different, memory cards are different and even the plug for the remote is different. If I compare both cameras, the 6dii comes very very close and in some ways it beats the 5diii.įor example: /nl/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii-vs-canon-eos-6d-mark. I still use it to take some loads off of the others.ĥdiii is 5 years old, and the 6dii is brand new. So maybe I won't replace, but let it repaired. I guess the G1X line wasn't selling too well.īut Canon should stay on it to make it a unique line with the 1.5" sensorīut Canon is more of a follower than a leader - Canon is using Sony's 1" sensor. Without a tripod (and I usually have to shoot without) you still get 'the wooblies :)įor my casual music videos I would actually love a Canon PowerShot G1X Mk111 but they closed that line after the Mark 11 and I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway In camera stabilisation for video only works up to a point. I feel like I need the 180mmL macro, but can't justify the expense, and I really would prefer having image stabilization. Being used to the 1.6 focal length multiplier of the 7D, I have not been too happy with the 100mmL macro on the full frame camera. I was thinking along the lines of what Patrick Mayon said above when I bought the 5Diii.the layout of the controls is easy to work with since it is very similar to the 7D.Īnother thought for your macro shots.
CANON POWERSHOT G1 X MARK II SOLAR ECLIPSE UPGRADE
The 6D2 would be the first step for upgrade on budget, with something like a L lens. Mint Chocs edited this topic 52 months ago.Īs a 7d owner, i think the most natural way to replace your 7D would be to buy a 5diii or 5Div : same layout, same plugs, same cards but a full frame sensor.Ī lot depends on what lens(es) you have, and your budget. The main question is do you have many full frame EF mount lenses, because if not then even other brands should be considered. Having had a look at your photostream I would say that even the original 6D would meet your needs of macro and landscape unless you want to pay a 1000 more for a flippy screen. At the full retail recommended price I don't think it's worth it but at 25% less I think that's probably what it should be at the most. Prices are starting to fall and the camera has barely been out. I would wait at least 6months before buying the 6Dmkii.

It would certainly be a nice upgrade from the 7D Ive just checked the specs of the 6DmkII and its looking pretty good to me, and if ive read it right also has in camera lens stabalization and if so an added bonus ? It is so difficult to make a choice if I really need the mark ii. I think the 6D is still ok, it's just a good choice, but the Canon 6D mark ii will be better. Maybe I should invest in the newer type, Canon 6D mark ii. When I buy the Canon 6D, I do have a new camera of and 'old' type. For me that would be the Canon 6D (mark ii). I want a fullframe DSLR, so I am looking for an affordable camera. I am thinking of replacing my Canon EOS 7D.
